Azure CDN Profiles Monitoring Integration

A content delivery network (CDN) is a distributed network of servers that delivers web information to users quickly and effectively. To reduce latency, these CDNs store cache content on edge servers in point-of-presence locations close to end users. An Azure CDN profile is a collection of CDN endpoints.

With Site24x7's integration, you can now monitor your CDN profiles, configure thresholds, and receive alerts about critical issues.

Setup and configuration

You can add Azure CDN profiles while adding a new monitor or you can add it to an existing Azure monitor. Follow these steps to add the service.

Supported metrics

The following metrics are collected:

Request Size The total size of incoming requests received by the edge. Total Bytes Front Door, CDN Classic
Response Size The total size of responses sent back to the client. Total Bytes Front Door
Total Latency The average time taken to serve a request, including network and backend latency. Average Milliseconds Front Door, CDN Classic
Byte Hit Ratio The average of bytes served from cache compared to total bytes served. Average Percentage Front Door, CDN Classic
Percentage of 4xx The average of responses with 4xx client error status codes. Average Percentage Front Door
Percentage of 5xx The average of responses with 5xx server error status codes. Average Percentage Front Door
Origin Latency The average time taken by the origin server to respond to requests forwarded from Front Door. Average Milliseconds Front Door
Origin Request Count The total number of requests forwarded to the origin server by Front Door. Total Count Front Door
Origin Health Percentage The average of origin servers that are healthy based on health probe responses. Average Percentage Front Door
Web Application Firewall Request Count The total number of requests inspected and processed by the WAF policy. Total Count Front Door
Web Application Firewall JS Challenge Request Count The total number of WAF requests that triggered a JavaScript challenge. Total Count Front Door

Threshold configuration

Global configuration

  1. Go to the Admin section in the left navigation pane.
  2. Select Configuration Profiles from the left pane and choose the Threshold and Availability (+) tab from the drop-down menu. Click Add Threshold Profile from the top-right corner.
  3. Set the monitor type as Azure CDN Profiles. Now you can set the threshold values for all the metrics mentioned above.

Monitor-level configuration

  1. Go to Cloud > Azure and select Azure CDN Profiles from the drop-down menu.
  2. Choose a resource for which you would like to set a threshold, then click the hamburger icon . Select Edit, which will direct you to the Edit Azure CDN Profiles Monitor page.

You can set the threshold values for the metrics by selecting Threshold and Availability. You can also configure IT Automation at the attribute level.

Default thresholds

Site24x7 alerts you based on a set of default thresholds. These default thresholds ensure that your capacity is not overutilized, thus maintaining optimal storage and performance. The default thresholds are as follows:

  • Alert if Backends are Unavailable
  • Alert if Resource Health is Unavailable
  • Alert if Backends are Degraded
  • Alert if Resource Health is Unknown

IT Automation

Site24x7 offers a set of exclusive IT Automation tools to auto-resolve performance degradation issues. These tools react to events proactively rather than waiting for manual intervention.
